Description

The HaseMed Female Urinal is a reusable bedside urinal shaped for female anatomy, molded in white polypropylene (PP) and fully autoclavable for repeat use in hospitals, long-term care, and home nursing. The wide oval collar sits flush against the body so the patient can void while lying supine or side-lying, and the low-profile reservoir keeps the device stable on the mattress beside the hip. A hinged snap lid and integrated carry loop close the bottle for odor control and safe transport to the sluice room.

Compared with male urinal bottles such as the HaseMed men's urinal, the female version uses a flat, kidney-shaped body with an enlarged scoop-style opening instead of a narrow bottle neck. That geometry is what makes it usable for bedridden women: caregivers can slide the collar under the patient with minimal lifting, and the angled wall channels fluid away from the rim back into the reservoir.

Highlights & Benefits

  • Anatomical female collar: Large oval opening with a raised inner lip seals against the perineum to catch urine cleanly in supine and lateral positions, reducing skin contact and linen changes.
  • Flat, low-profile reservoir: Kidney-shaped body lies beside the hip on the mattress, so the patient does not need to be lifted or rolled far during placement.
  • Autoclavable PP: Medical-grade polypropylene tolerates standard steam sterilization cycles (typically 121 °C), so the same bottle can be returned to service between patients in ward and CSSD workflows.
  • Integrated handle and snap lid: Loop handle allows one-handed carry to the sluice; the tethered lid closes the collar to contain odor and splashes during transport.
  • Break-resistant and lightweight: PP resists drops from bed height and is light enough for patients with limited grip strength to self-position when independence is possible.
  • Smooth, non-porous surface: No seams or textured areas in the collection zone, so routine cleaning and disinfection reach all fluid-contact surfaces.

Designed for Female Anatomy

Standard bottle-shaped urinals are designed around the male urethra and are difficult to seal against the female body. The HaseMed female urinal solves this with a wide, forward-facing collar that cups the perineum, combined with a shallow rear reservoir that extends under the buttocks. This shape means the patient can remain nearly flat — important after hip or spinal surgery, during labor recovery, or when mobility is restricted by lines, drains, or casts. The curved rim distributes pressure over a larger area than a hard plastic bedpan edge, which caregivers often choose for comfort during repeated use.

Use Cases

  • Bed-bound nursing care: Routine voiding support for female patients on bed rest in hospital wards, geriatric units, and hospice settings.
  • Post-operative recovery: Alternative to a full bedpan after abdominal, orthopedic, or gynecological surgery, when sitting upright is painful or contraindicated.
  • Home care and palliative care: Reusable solution for home nursing services and family caregivers managing continence at night or between toilet transfers.
  • Rehabilitation and mobility training: Bridging device while a patient regains the ability to transfer to a commode or toilet.
  • Travel and long transports: Contingency option for patient transport, long ambulance rides, or MRI/CT waiting times where toilet access is not practical.

How to Use

  1. Perform hand hygiene and put on gloves. Place an absorbent pad under the patient's hips as a precaution.
  2. With the patient in supine or side-lying position, slide the urinal collar between the thighs so the wide oval opening sits flush against the perineum and the reservoir extends toward the hip.
  3. Support the bottle during voiding; keep the reservoir end slightly lower than the collar so fluid flows into the body of the urinal.
  4. After voiding, close the hinged lid before moving the bottle to prevent spills. Remove it using the carry handle and transport to the sluice.
  5. Empty the contents, rinse the urinal with water, then clean with a surface disinfectant compatible with polypropylene. For shared-patient use, reprocess in the autoclave per facility protocol before returning to the bedside.

Important Notes

Clean the urinal before first use. Follow your facility's reprocessing protocol for cleaning, disinfection, and autoclaving, and observe the temperature and cycle-time limits for polypropylene. Avoid strong solvents, abrasive cleaners, and prolonged direct sunlight, which can affect material integrity over time. Inspect the bottle before each use and replace it if the collar, handle, or body shows cracks, deformation, or persistent discoloration. This product is intended for the collection of urine only.
